Session length and engagement with your online classmates depends on YOU, so proceed to the next session whenever you’re ready. Remember that your peers await your contributions. Help them learn with you and from you!

ASYNCHRONOUS (offline) or REAL TIME COLLABORATION

PART 1: Oral Communication: Rap or Talk show

CHOICE A: Collaborate in a pair to create a RAP on lifestyles (mainstream, alternative, one or more, up to you). Perform the rap in an audio or video compilation, and share it with the other forum groups in Session 6.
 

CHOICE B: In groups of 4-6 (ensure you’re working with someone new from your Forum group) create a talk show video, up to 10 minutes in length, and share it with the other forum groups in Session 6.

Remember for choice B your task was to figure out:
1/ the focus your talk– formulate your inquiry question with which you’ll begin (watch the Kenyan host do it right at the beginning, sets the focus of the discussion)
2/ assume roles/personas for the guest speakers
3/ script your questions and answers – have fun with it, it needn’t be stiff or rehearsed.
4/ conduct a group SKYPE session and record it OR record your video feed for the compilation – you may decide to use the same white wall backdrop, or all use trees in the background, or all sit round a table in a classroom to simulate real-time discussion, whatever works for you, then send your video feed to one person in the group (or two) to piece it together.
5/ share the final product so all groups can watch (upload to a free Wistia account and share the link, as Vimeo/ Youtube are unavailable in some countries, or give the file to your teacher who will send it to Connect2Learn for sharing.)

 Therefore you should:

  • Continue collaboration in your forum group and complete the elements of your plan of action/project/infographic.
  • Collaborate and cooperate synchronously (Figure it out!) and asynchronously.
  • Remember to divide up the project into smaller tasks fairly equally.
  • Keep in mind time zones and group members’ work load.

Your teacher may assign one or more of the following writing tasks for formative practice:

  • Write a personal blog or a diary entry discussing your encounter with peers from around the world. Explain how you feel about your own opinions and those of others. Ponder the intercultural exchange and the extent to which their background and location may influence their views.
  • Write a feature article for your school magazine explaining the nature of your intercultural exchange with peers from around the world and explain the benefits and potential drawbacks of such exchanges.
